It’ll be a Sydney Derby to remember when the Western Sydney Wanderers host Sydney FC at 7:30pm (AEST) on Saturday, October 6.
The Wanderers have had to overcome some very plucky second-tier teams in their journey to the semi-final, with all three of their wins this tournament coming by a single goal.
It took a stoppage-time winner to see them past Hellenic Athletic 4-3 in the round of 32, before Bonnyrigg White Eagles pushed them all the way in the round of 16 too. Ironically, their best performance came against A-League side Melbourne City in the quarter-finals.
The Sky Blues, on the other hand, will be looking to reach the FFA Cup final for the third year in a row. The reigning champions haven’t had it all their own way either, battling hard against Rockdale City Suns and Cairns FC, before needing extra time to take down Avondale FC.
Despite the struggles against lesser sides, they’ll start slight favourites against their local rivals for this one.
